Rain Ponchos: Ideal for Staying Dry in Any Weather

The ‘Understated’ Rain Poncho is an ideal choice to carry on your adventures whether hiking, camping, fishing or braving a music festival.

When I’m out hiking or trekking, my rain poncho is always in my pack—rain or shine. It’s ultralight, packs down small, and adds almost no weight, which matters when every ounce counts on the trail.

What makes it a must-have for me is the coverage. Unlike a rain jacket, it drapes over both me and my backpack, so everything stays dry—clothes, snacks, electronics. That can be the difference between a miserable hike and a great one.

It’s also quick to throw on when the skies open up—no fumbling with zippers or trying to squeeze under a tree. Just pull it over and keep moving. I’ve used it as a mini shelter in sudden downpours and even as a groundsheet when I needed a break.

In the jungle, it’s even more essential. Rain hits hard and fast, and the poncho is often the only thing standing between me and a complete soak. The full-body coverage keeps me and my gear dry, and unlike a jacket, it gives me ventilation—crucial in that sticky, humid heat.

I’ve used it to wrap gear, cross rivers, and cover muddy spots. It’s not fancy, but it’s versatile, reliable, and one of the most valuable pieces of gear I carry. For me, it’s not just about staying dry—it’s about staying comfortable and ready for whatever the trail throws at me.

On wet days it keeps you dry and allows you to sit on a damp log without getting your bum wet!

The Enhanced Patrol Poncho is a small, lightweight product from Snugpak that provides 100% waterproof protection from unexpected rain.
